Sommier Le Isole Pelagie 1908

Stefano Sommier (1848-1922) was a botanist and geographer who visited Lampedusa at the beginning of the last century writing a book (in Italian language) on the flora of the Pelagian Islands. The section of this book entitled “Appunti biografici” is particularly rich of information about all the authors who visited and wrote about Lampedusa. I believe this is an important starting point for those (speaking Italian)  interested in learning and reading about the history of Lampedusa. The first chapter of the book about the history and etymology of the name Lampedusa is also well worth reading for those interested in the history of Lampedusa, the rest of the book, of course is for lovers of biology and botany.

I am attaching here a link to download a digital copy of "Le Isole Pelagie" by Stefano Sommier ( an edition of 1908) preserved for generations on library shelves before it was carefully scanned by Google as part of a project of books digitalization. This  book has survived long enough for the copyright to expire and the book to enter the public domain. A public domain book is one that was never subject to copyright or whose legal copyright term has expired.
